More than a thousand hikers have already completed the Iter Goritiense
On Monday, September 15, 2025, a training session for tourism workers took place at the Ad Formandum educational institution in Gorizia. During the session, members of the Walk2spirit project team presented the Iter Goritiense and its potential for tourism and as an additional offering in the cross-border region. In just over a year since the 80-kilometer-long trail was marked, it has been walked by more than a thousant hikers.
Participants from Slovenia and Italy learned about the origin of the idea for the Iter Goritiense and its realization within the framework of the cross-border Interreg project Walk2spirit. They were provided with technical details about the trail, its individual stages, accommodation, and food and drink options along the way. They were also introduced to the pilgrim passports received by hikers, the stamps they can collect at twelve points along the route, and the "testimonium"—a certificate of completion that everyone who walks the Iter Goritiense can receive at the end of the journey on Sveta Gora.
Special attention was paid to preparing for the journey, including physical and logistical preparations, as well as proper equipment and other details to consider before setting off on the Iter Goritiense. The participants also watched a short promotional video about the Iter Goritiense and visited the website, which offers descriptions of the stages, maps, accommodation information, and GPX tracks for the entire route.
The theoretical part was followed by a short hike along a section of the 4th stage of the Iter Goritiense. The participants walked through Piazza della Vittoria and Via Rastello, climbed to Castle of Gorizia, and descended from there to the Rafut border crossing, before heading uphill again towards Kostanjevica. The short hike, which included a presentation of points of interest along the way, concluded at Europe Square between Gorizia and Nova Gorica.

The project is funded by the European Union through the Small Projects Fund of the GO! 2025 Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 programme, managed by the GECT GO.
